Hualien County owns magnificent and unpolluted natural landscape. Its tourist attractions are among the best in the country. They include awe-inspiring Taroko Gorge, beautiful Liyu Carp Lake, Qixingtan Beach, one of the best places to beat the heat in summer, Saoba Stone Pillars, Taiwan’s only remains of pre-historic civilizations, Chichi Bay, one of the best beaches on Taiwan’s east coast, Tidaan, where strange-shaped rocks are concentrated, and meandering Xiuguluan River, the many rapids of which offer exciting rafting challenges. They have become the places that Hualien people are most proud of.
